Friendship Mississionary Baptist Church History
Friendship Missionary Baptist Church was first organized in 1905 as Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It was located in Tignan, GA with less than 20 baptized believers. The Rev. Lonzo Holmes of Fitzgerald served as pastor. The Board of Deacons was organized and the church was relocated to Moultrie on 4th St. N W. Throughout this time, other great leaders were called to be the shepherd of this growing church. Among these leaders were, the Rev. L.M. Matthews of Tifton, Georgia, who was call to serve in 1908, Rev. J. Hawkins of Valdosta in 1913, Rev. Eddie White in 1914, Rev. A. Cooper of Cropland in 1916, Rev. W. F. Flamer of Moultrie in 1920, Rev. J.C. Collie of Moultrie in 1923, Rev. W.F. Johnson of Camilla in 1938 until 1972, Rev. Leroy Thompson, Jr. of Tallahassee in 1972 thru 2005, and Rev. Alfred Jones in 2005 until 2020.
In 1916, the church moved to the corner of 3rd St. and 9th Ave., NW. Under the leadership of Rev. Collie, the church was moved to its present location and its name was changed to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Unfortunately, the church burned once and was blown down but dedicated Christian believers did not stop until the church was rebuilt and missionary work continued.
Under the leadership of Rev. Jones, the church continues to thrive. We have three Associate Pastors. They are Minister Dorsett, Minister William Todd Cason, and Minister Thomas. have numerous auxiliaries and a dedicated group of deacons and trustees. The current deacons are Odell Mapp, Jerome Walker, Sr., Atticus Jones, Eddie Warren, Arceller Lewis, Ronnie French, Frankie Peterson, Ralph Shannon, Remmer Williams, and Todd Myrick. The auxiliaries are the Mothers Board, the Deaconess Board, the Usher Board, the Mission Board, the Women’s Auxiliary, the Men’s Auxiliary, the Bus Ministry, the Breakfast ministry, five choirs and the Sunday school Ministry. The Hall of Fame Wall, located in the fellowship hall, consists of several dedicated members, past and present. The church began full time service in 1994 and participates in a host of outreach programs in the community.
Currently we are under the leadership of an Interim Pastor, Rev. Mose Jordan.
