Purpose

The purpose of Harvest Bible University is to help all churches and Christians fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ throughout the world. Jesus said, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matt. 28:18–20).
Harvest Bible University helps Christians get the education they need by making Bible university affordable for people who are not able to pay thousands of dollars per year to attend a major Bible university. It makes Bible education available by its location right in the city. It makes Bible education achievable for people of all ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Harvest makes Bible education practical for those who want an education that focuses on training in the Bible, ministry, and the Christian life. And Harvest helps churches by developing loyal, competent members who will work with the pastor as he or she leads. Just what you’ve been looking for.

Philosophy

Harvest Bible University is interdenominational and has been established to work in concert with churches and other ministries in the area who want to see a rapid increase in the number and effectiveness of churches in the city.
Harvest leaves people’s ethnicity and socioeconomic identity intact. It is a multi-ethnic school that helps each group develop its own approach to reaching its people for Christ. Harvest is designed for regular people who will never be able to afford a major Christian University education; for people who come from oral tradition cultures and therefore do not fit in well with the dominant academic establishment; and for people who have been “marginalized” by “the system” for any number of other reasons.

Harvest is designed to develop character, Bible knowledge, relationship with God, and ministry competency. It uses only teachers who are spiritually mature and have ministries themselves; who teach from experience as well as academic preparation. Every teacher is gifted with the ability to make the classroom come alive, to cause learning and life-change right in the room. Harvest is designed for working people with families who are active in their own churches and, therefore, do not have great amounts of time for schooling.

What We Believe

The Scriptures

We believe that both the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired by God and are inerrant in the original writings. Through the providence of God, the Scriptures have been preserved and are the supreme and final and adequate authority in faith and life.

God

We believe that there is only one true and living God, existing in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - each a distinct Person, but all of one essence and all having the same nature, perfections, and attributes. Each is worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence, and obedience.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, shed His blood on Calvary as a vicarious substitute, was buried, rose again bodily, and ascended to the Father according to the Scriptures. We believe that he is fully divine and fully human.

Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit to be the third person of the Trinity whose purpose in the redemption of man is to convict of sin, regenerate the repentant believer, guide the believer in all truth, indwell and give gifts to believers as He will that they may minister as Christ would to men. We believe that the manifestations of the Holy Spirit recorded in I Corinthians 12:8-11 shall operate in present-day churches which yield to the Lord Jesus Christ.

(Luke 11:13; John 7:27-29; 14:16-17; 16:7-14; Acts 2:39-48).

Creation

We believe the triune God created the universe apart from pre-existing materials and without any evolutionary process. We believe in the historicity of the first eleven chapters of Genesis.

Man

We believe that man is the direct creation of God - body, soul, and spirit - and is not in any sense the result of evolution but is made in the image and likeness of God. When the first man, Adam sinned, he brought sin into the human race. As a consequence all men since are born as sinners, lost, undone, without hope, and without God.

(Romans 3:19-23; Galatians 3:22; Ephesians 2:1-2, 12)

Salvation

We believe that the terms of salvation are repentance from sin, and a personal, heartfelt faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which results in regeneration of the person. This salvation is entirely by the grace of our Lord and not of works. Works are excluded except as fruit of salvation.

(Acts 3:19-30; Romans 4:1-5; 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-10).

Ascension

We believe that Christ Jesus ascended to the Father and is preparing a place for believers and interceding for the saints.

(John 14:3; Romans 8:34)

Second Coming

We believe in the visible, bodily return of Christ Jesus to this earth to rapture His Church and judge the world (Acts 1:10-11; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; II Thessalonians 1:7-10; James 5:8; Revelation 1:7). *It is not necessary that we all believe alike concerning the relationship of His coming to either the Great Tribulation or to the Millennium.

Heaven and Hell

We believe that Scriptures clearly set forth the doctrines of eternal punishment for the lost and eternal bliss and service for the saved -hell for the unsaved, heaven for the saved.

(Matthew 25:34, 41, 46; Luke 16:19-31; John 14:1-3; Revelation 20:11-15).
